Are you making plans for your home for the new year to come?  Then I have a wonderful book tip for you. That is if you like to create a minimalistic, dramatic, eclectic or chic interior, with just the colors black, white and grey shades. I know I do. If you do too, then this book Monochrome Home by Brooklin-based interior stylist Hilary Robertson is a must-read.

The book had over 190 pages full with pictures of beautiful interiors in different styles. In two main themes she describes the monochrome palettes and homes. As a professional she analyses the homes and shows you how to put a monochrome palette together.

“Choosing a monochrome interior is a minimalist stance, a refusal to get caught up in the drama of colour with all the attendant complications of what goes with what.”

I can relate to that. For my own interior and for the way I dress since a long long time.

Also, I can see that these monochrome homes are fitting into a trend that is just starting to develop, but to my  conviction will be a big trend the upcoming years: to share instead of to possess. You see the signs everywhere. Like the post and keynote by Plique about a sustainable wardrobe.

I truly believe that’s what you can do with an interior too. And I don’t mean that you should never use color or change objects and furniture. That’s something you can always keep doing. Adding color in different ways, like in styling, flowers, plants, your fruits and vegetables, art… You name it.

“Materials are key” in a monochrome home as Hilary says. And that is the secret. If you look for contrast in materials, you don’t have to go over the top with color. In the book, she shows tons of examples of that.

Regardless of your personal style, you find plenty of inspiration and useful tips to create your own monochrome black and white, or shades of grey, moody colored or bright and white interior.

See the pictures below and don’t forget to watch the Monochrome Home book review video  made. This book is definitely in my book in my top 5!

BOEK RECENSIE

MONOCHROME HOME
