Yesterday I visited the Salon Residence event in the Singer Museum in Laren NL. This event is organized by the Dutch interior magazine Residence.
It’s not comparable with any other Dutch interior event. This is a place where you wonder around rooms, full with design, fabrics, unique pieces, artwork, paintings and so on…
A bit of a contrast to my own taste about design and more minimalistic style, but on the other hand it triggered me too. As a color and textile lover, I couldn’t be in a better place. And as a moody color and Dutch Master painting lover, it was even better. All rooms looked like if they were styled for a movie and furnished by famous Dutch Interiordesigners an curators.

BIJ HET NEDERLANDSE SINGER MUSEUM
10-13 SEPTEMBER 2015
Gisteren bezocht ik het Salon Residence evenement in het Singer Museum in Laren. Dit evenement wordt georganiseerd door het Nederlandse interieur tijdschrift Residence. Het is niet te vergelijken met andere Nederlandse interieur evenementen. Dit is een plek waar je dromend door de kamers, vol met design, stoffen, unieke stukken, kunstwerken, schilderijen en ga zo maar door, dwaalt…
Een beetje een contrast met mijn eigen design smaak en minimalistische stijl, maar aan de andere kant prikkelt en intrigeert het me ook. Als kleur en textiel lover, kon ik niet op een betere plek zijn. En als een “moody” kleuren en Hollandse Meesters liefhebber, was het zelfs nog beter. Alle kamers zagen eruit alsof ze voor een film gestyled zijn en zijn ingericht door bekende Nederlandse interieur ontwerpers en curators.

Black is the new black…
I spotted this black table styling trend last summer in Copenhagen [ see my instagram picture below] and I’m thrilled: I’m going to style my dining table like this for Xmas.
I spotted this black table styling trend last summer in Copenhagen [ see my instagram picture below] and I’m thrilled: I’m going to style my dining table like this for Xmas.
So no white Christmas for me! Last year I also went of a lot of black, but this year I’ll go for all black… It looks great with al the food. Just like the paintings of the Dutch Masters I love so much, but I want a very NOW feeling mixed with this golden age thing.
That’s where the styling elements of Functionals come in: thats just the right touch.
If you want to create this style at your home than you can certainly find some great items at Functionals!
For instance the beautiful black aluminum tea light – candle holder Bonsai 1 + 5, or the Paxton candle holder. But also the Bolder that you can use as a vase and wine cooler. And what do you think of the dark glass Bowl? Combine this with a black tablecloth and black diner plates and you’re all set!

DE kerst trend voor 2014:
Zwart is het nieuwe zwart …
Ik spotte deze zwarte tafel styling trend afgelopen zomer al in Kopenhagen en ik ben blij: ik ga mijn eettafel voor de kerst helemaal in het zwart stylen. Dus dit jaar geen witte kerst voor mij! Vorig jaar ging ik ook van veel zwart, maar dit jaar ga ik voor alles in zwart … Het ziet er geweldig uit met al het eten voor het Kerst diner. Net als de schilderijen van de Nederlandse Meesters waar ik zo van houd, maar ik wil dit Gouden Eeuw sfeertje het wel mengen een NU gevoel.
Dat is waar de styling elementen van Functionals goed van pas komen: dat is precies de juiste touch.
Als je wilt deze stijl zelf ook wilt creëren bij jou thuis, dan kun je zeker een aantal goede items bij Functionals vinden!
Bijvoorbeeld die mooie zwarte aluminium thee licht – kaars-houders Bonsai 1 + 5, of de Paxton kandelaar. Maar ook de Bolder die je kunt gebruiken als een vaas en als wijnkoeler. En wat denk je van de donkere glazen Bowl? Combineer dit met een zwarte tafelkleed en zwarte borden en je bent klaar!

De eerste keer dat ik deze foto’s van Hendrik Kerstens zag werd ik zo blij. Voor mij heeft het alle elementen van de schilderkunst van de Hollandse meesters en de link naar moderne fotografie in zich die mij aanspreken. Precies de juiste snaar!
O wat zou ik graag een van deze foto’s aan mijn wand hangen….
En wat fijn dat ze nu voor iedereen te zien zijn

The first time I saw these photos by Hendrik Kerstens, I was so happy.
For me, it has all the elements of the painting of the Dutch Masters and the link to modern photography in it, that appeal to me.
Oh how I would love to have one of these photos hanging on my wall ….
And it’s good thing that they are now for everyone to see in A Bar at the Amstel Hotel

Hendrik Kerstens
Sinds 1995 fotografeert de Amsterdamse Hendrik Kerstens zijn dochter Paula. Zijn foto’s worden verzameld door musea van over heel de wereld en hebben smaakmakers als Elton John en Alexander McQueen geïnspireerd. Zijn werk is inmiddels opgemerkt in grote landen als Rusland en China, maar in eigen land heeft deze bijzondere fotograaf gelukkig een aantal trouwe verzamelaars. Kerstens maakt portretten om het hedendaagse leven vast te leggen en gebruikt daarbij lichttechnieken uit de schilderkunst van de Renaissance. Zijn foto’s van Paula worden vergeleken met het werk van de Vlaamse Primitieven en Hollandse meesters als Vermeer en Rembrandt. Hij maakt met zijn beelden een grappige dialoog tussen verleden en heden. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is Paula met een Oud-Hollandse kraag van 1000 op elkaar gestapelde taartranden.

His photographs are collected by museums all over the world and have inspired Elton John and Alexander McQueen. His work has been noted in large countries such as Russia and China and in his own country, The Netherlands, he has some loyal collectors. Kerstens makes portraits to capture contemporary life and uses light techniques of Renaissance painting. His photographs of Paula are compared with the work of the Flemish Primitives and Dutch masters like Vermeer and Rembrandt. He makes his pictures with a funny dialogue between past and present. A good example is Paula with a Old Dutch collar made out of 1000 stacked cake paper pads.
