If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have noticed I’m at the Dutch Design Week, for my yearly doses of Design and Trend input. The Dutch Design Week, also known as DDW, is such a unique event.

I think you can compare it best with the outside events of the Milan design week, like Ventura Lambrate. Lot’s of young, new designers, but also students and innovative brands are represented. There is so much to see, that you easily can stay the whole week and even then you probably missed some spots.

For me this year a few things were most outstanding: Lot’s of color and material research! One of the biggest examples of this is the exhibition ” Everything but the product” by Envisions, a group of last years graduated students of the Eindhoven Design Academy, who showcased their products and designs for the first time in Milan last April.

Below a selection of my finds until now. If you have the chance to go visit the Dutch Design Week for yourself: please do! You don’t want to miss this. Besides the uniqueness of this yearly event, with a never-ending input of design, you probably will be surprised by the warm and welcome feeling of the overall event, with all the designers who are willing to talk to you in person and explain their visions and concepts. But also the nice spots to eat and drink and relax are amazing.

Dutch Design Week 2016

Als je me volgt op Instagram, heb je waarschijnlijk al gemerkt dat ik deze week bij de Nederlandse Design Week ben, voor mijn jaarlijkse doses Design en Trend inspiratie. De Dutch Design Week, ook wel bekend als DDW, is zo’n uniek evenement.

Ik denk dat je het het best kunt vergelijken met Ventura Lambrate in Milaan tijdens de Designweek. Veel jonge, nieuwe ontwerpers maar ook studenten en innovatieve merken zijn vertegenwoordigd. Er is zoveel te zien, dat je makkelijk de hele week kunt blijven en zelfs dan waarschijnlijk nog niet alles hebt gezien.

Voor mij is dit jaar het meest opvallend: Heel veel kleur en materiaal onderzoek! Een van de grootste voorbeelden hiervan is de tentoonstelling “Alles behalve het product” van Envisions , een groep vorig jaar afgestudeerde studenten van de Design Academy Eindhoven, die hun producten en ontwerpen voor het eerst in Milaan hebben tentoongesteld, afgelopen april.

Hieronder vind je een selectie van mijn vondsten tot nu toe. Als je de kans hebt om zelf de DDW te gaan bezoeken: doen! Je wilt dit niet missen. Naast het unieke karakter van dit jaarlijks evenement, met een enrome hoeveelheid design, zul je waarschijnlijk verrast zijn door het warme en gastvrije gevoel van het totale evenement, waar alle ontwerpers bereid zijn om je persoonlijk te woord te staan en hun visies en concepten uit te leggen. Maar ook al die leuke plekjes om wat te eten en te drinken en te ontspannen zijn fantastisch.

My heart alway skips a beat when my eye catches a beautiful of interesting fabric. Same with colors. It makes me happy. That’s exactly what happened when I was invited by Kvadrat Amsterdam to join the launch of the new Kvadrat | Raf Simons collection. I was honored to be part of it.

Kvadrat designs and makes the most beautiful textiles for interior, furniture and accessories and is my favorite company to work with. The Danish roots are founded in 1968. Since then Kvadrat worked with several architects and designers like Tord Boontje, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Patricia Urquiola and many more. And now, since 2014, also with fashion designer Raf Simons. You can’t make me more happy, with these kind of collaborations.

Raf Simons, born in Belgium, studied industrial design in Genk. He moved to Antwerp, inspired by the work of conceptual fashion designer Martin Margiela, to study Fashion at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, but was encouraged to start his own label right way in 1995. Luckily he did: Raf Simons menswear had huge impact on the style of the decade.

After being the artistic director of the Jil Sander label since 2005, Raf became the creative director for Dior Women. He is now concentrating on his own label and, since this Augustus, joined Calvin Klein as creative director. Raf Simons is a passionate collector of contemporary art and modern design and is known for his vital, sophisticated modernism.

Raf Simons has applied his Kvadrat upholstery designs for the first time in 2014 for his own menswear collection which he designed in collaboration with artist Sterling Ruby. After that time, he designed several fabrics for Kvadrat and showed it in a few fashion collections he did for Dior. So, that’s enough information for now I think! Just go wander around in the pictures below, where you will find the newest Raf Simons | Kvadrat collection, inspired by the modern nautical upholstery of Franco Albini’s suspended Poltrona Seggiovia (Chairlift Chair) of 1940, which resulted in 3 textile collections: Reflex, Pulsar and Fuse. I find the collection very refreshing, with a hint of the history of the early modernists in it. Very graphic and with beautiful colors. The collection is distributed by selected dealers. Suitable for furniture upholstery, contemporary fashion designs and also available as a beautiful pillow collection.

Mijn hart gaat altijd sneller kloppen als ik mooie of interessante stoffen zie. Het zelfde heb ik met kleuren cobinaties. Het maakt me blij. Dat is precies wat er gebeurde toen ik door Kvadrat Amsterdam werd uitgenodigd om de lancering van de nieuwe Kvadrat | Raf Simons collectie mocht bijwonen. Ik was zeer vereerd om er bij te zijn.

Kvadrat ontwerpt en maakt de mooiste stoffen voor interieur, meubels en accessoires en is mijn favoriete bedrijf om mee te werken. De Deense “roots” stammen al uit 1968. Sindsdien heeft Kvadrat samen gewerkt en collecties ontwikkeld met vele architecten en ontwerpers als Tord Boontje, Ronan en Erwan Bouroullec, Patricia Urquiola en nog velen meer. En nu, sinds 2014, ook met modeontwerper Raf Simons. Je kunt mij niet meer gelukkig maken, dan met dit soort samenwerkingen.

Raf Simons, geboren in België, studeerde industriële vormgeving in Genk. Hij verhuisde in 1995 naar Antwerpen, geïnspireerd door het werk van de conceptuele mode-ontwerper Martin Margiela, om Fashion te gaan studeren aan de Koninklijke Academie van Antwerpen, maar werd aangemoedigd om direct zijn eigen label te gaan beginnen. Gelukkig deed hij dat: Raf Simons menswear had grote invloed op de fashion stijl van afgelopen decennium.

In 2005 starte Raf Simons als artistiek directeur van het Jil Sander label en werd later creatief directeur van Dior Women. Momenteel is Raf zich aan het focussen op zijn eigen label en sinds afgelopen augustus tevens bij Calvin Klein als creatief directeur. Hij is een gepassioneerd verzamelaar van hedendaagse kunst en modern design en staat bekend om zijn vitale, verfijnde modernistische stijl.

Raf Simons heeft zijn Kvadrat stofontwerpen voor het eerst in 2014 toegepast in fashion, voor zijn eigen mannencollectie, die hij in samenwerking met kunstenaar Sterling Ruby ontwlierp. Na die tijd, heeft hij verschillende stoffen voor Kvadrat ontwikkeld en in verschillende mode collecties van Dior toegepast. Als je daar meer wilt weten en over hoe hij te werk gaat, zijn visie en concept wilt leren kennen kan ik je van harte de film | documentaire “Dior en ik” aanbevelen.

Zo, dat is genoeg informatie voor nu denk ik! Ga gewoon lekker rondneuzen in onderstaande foto’s, waar je de nieuwste Raf Simons | Kvadrat collectie kunt vinden. Geïnspireerd op de moderne nautische bekleding van de beroemde Franco Albini hangstoel Poltrona Seggiovia (Chairlift Chair) uit 1940, wat resulteerde in 3 textielcollecties: Reflex, Pulsar en Fuse. Ik vind de collectie zeer verfrissend, met een vleugje van de geschiedenis van de vroege modernisten. Zeer grafisch en in prachtige kleuren. De collectie is uitsluitend verkrijgbaar via geselecteerde dealers. Geschikt voor meubelstoffering, conceptuele mode en ook nog eens beschikbaar als een mooie kussen collectie.

Recently Flexa revealed the new trend color for 2017 : Denim Drift. Along with this beautiful blue color, there are four extra interior colour themes to work with for the upcoming year 2017.

The overall trend for 2017 is “Life in a New Light”. In my previous blog post about the trend color Denim Drift, you can read more about that.

The four extra underlying themes with matching color palettes are:

NEW ROMANTICISM – SHARED INDIVIDUALISM – THE WORKING HOME – CONSIDERED LUXURY

“New Romanticism” stands for taking responsibility and connecting with Earth, which expresses in a bohemian and eclectic style with lots of natural elements and creativity.

“Shared Individualism” theme stands for new groups, which can be a group of friends, co-workers, family or people who think alike and share their dreams and the spaces they live or work in. A very happy, playful theme.

“The Working Home” stands for the fading boundaries between work and home. With this palette, you can define and combine the different zones in your home and keeps you focused when needed.

“Considered Luxury” stands for the new way of consuming. It’s about minimalism, owning less and sharing more and making choices of what you really want to have in your home. Texture, soft textiles, pleasant scents and good music are elements of this subtle luxury. you will find lot’s of whites and natural tones in this palette.

I personally am very content with the Denim Drift Blue! I love the dark version. But also these four themes give me a lot of inspiration for the interior designs for my clients. I always translate colors to a personal palette for my clients and their homes. These inspirational colors for 2017 give enough room for a personal interpretation.

Onlangs onthulde Flexa de nieuwe interieur trend kleur voor 2017: Denim Drift. Naast deze mooie blauwe tint zijn er vier extra interieur kleur thema’s om mee te werken in het komende jaar 2017.

De algemene trend voor 2017 is “Het leven in een nieuw licht”. In mijn vorige blog post over de trend kleur van 2017 Denim Drift, kun je daar meer over lezen. De vier extra onderliggende thema’s met bijpassende kleurpaletten zijn:

NEW ROMANTICISM – SHARED INDIVIDUALISM – THE WORKING HOME – CONSIDERED LUXURY

“NEW ROMANTICISM” staat voor het nemen van verantwoordelijkheid en het verbinden met de aarde. Dit komt tot uiting in een bohemien en eclectische stijl met veel natuurlijke elementen en creativiteit.

“SHARED INDIVIDUALISM” staat voor nieuwe groepen die ontstaan, Deze kunnen bestaan uit vrienden, collega’s familie of gewoon mensen die hetzelfde denken, hun dromen delen en de ruimte waarin ze wonen of werken. Een heel vrolijk en speels thema.

“THE WORKING HOME” staat voor de vervagende grenzen tussen werk en privé. Met dit palet kun je de verschillende zones in huis definiëren en combineeren en het houdt je gefocust wanneer dat nodig is.

“CONSIDERED LUXURY” staat voor de nieuwe manier van consumeren. Het gaat over het minimalisme, het minder bezitten en meer delen. Het maken van keuzes: wat wil je echt graag in je huis hebben staan. Textuur, zacht textiel, aangename geuren en goede muziek zijn belangrijke elementen van deze subtiele luxe. Je zult veel witten en natuurlijke tinten in dit palet zien.

Today Flexa | AkzoNobel revealed the new 2017 Interior trend color by Colour Futures: Denim Drift. Social and trend research showed that we want to celebrate the “simple things” in life.

Heleen van Gent, Colour Expert at Flexa, described it as follows: “As the world around you changes constantly, you see the ‘normal’ things in life, such as family, friends and work, with new eyes.

In addition, the return to nature and the sheer enjoyment of experiencing the “now” is much more important.” This results in the theme ‘LIFE IN A NEW LIGHT “, a new outlook on life.

Color of the Year 2017 “DENIM DRIFT” is a pleasant, timeless, versatile gray blue, that depending on how you apply it, always looks different. Blue, used in various proportions and a variety of light and dark shades can change the atmosphere in a room can completely.

By combining Denim Drift with a few lighter variants, the result is fresh and airy. In a darker version it creates a dramatic atmosphere. Thus, there are numerous ways to apply the color denim drift.

“Life in a New Light” is the overall trend, but there are four underlying themes with matching color palettes:

Vandaag onthulde Flexa | AkzoNobel de nieuwe op Colour Futuresctrend kleur 2017 voor het interieur: Denim Drift. Trend onderzoek toont aan dat we de eenvoudige dingen in het leven willen vieren.

Heleen van Gent, Colour Expert Flexa beschrijft het als volgt: “Als de wereld om je heen voortdured verandert, zie je de ‘normale’ dingen in het leven, zoals familie, vrienden en werk, met nieuwe ogen. Daarnaast is de terugkeer naar de natuur en het pure genot van het “in het nu zijn” veel belangrijker. Dit resulteert in het thema “LEVEN IN EEN NIEUW LICHT”, een nieuwe kijk op het leven.

Kleur van het Jaar 2017 “DENIM DRIFT” is een aangenaam, tijdloos, veelzijdig grijs blauw dat, afhankelijk van hoe je het toepast, er altijd anders uit ziet. Blauw, gebruikt in verschillende verhoudingen en verscheidene lichte en donkere kleuren, kan de sfeer in een kamer volledig veranderen.

Door het combineren van Denim Drift met een paar lichtere varianten, wordt het resultaat fris en luchtig; in een donkere versie creëert het een dramatische sfeer. Zo zijn er verschillende manieren om de blauwe kleur Denim Drift toe te passen.

Who wouldn’t want to wake up in this hotel room? It’s one of the rooms of the new Hotel Blue in Nijmegen NL. In my blogpost about the Blue lounge, restaurant and bar, you can read all about my stay. Since there was so much to show, I’ve made this second post.

I love the moody colors used on the walls and ceilings. It gives the room a cosy look and is a bit masculine at the same time. The added yellow touch of the small table is just perfect. The rooms all have these wonderful high ceilings.

The bed was very comfortable and made with crispy white sheets. I love the big leather pillow: I want to steal that idea for my own bed at home.

We were lucky with a nice balcony. I love to open the doors and sit outside for a bit. If possible, ask for this when you book the room. Not all rooms have one. A small but comfortable sitting nook in black is just enough to drink your first made coffee in the morning, or write your postcards for home.

The comfortable shower and beautiful sink, designed by Jee-O, make the room complete. Hotel Blue provides a goody bag with coffee, tea and the nicest shower gel and shampoo.

Downstairs you can start your day, or relax all day, in the beautiful designed and styled lounge ” Salon the The”. In the afternoon and evening the “Blue Bar” is the place to be. Also go for a bite at the restaurant ” Juliette” where you can sit at the kitchen counter while the chef kooks for you . Read all about that in this blogpost over here.

Hotel Blue is a “sister” of award winning Hotel Manna, which is just a few steps down the road.

HOTEL BLUE | DE KAMERS

DESIGN HOTEL

Wie zou er nou niet wakker willen worden in deze hotel kamer? Het is een van de kamers van het nieuwe Hotel Blue in Nijmegen. In mijn eerdere blogpost over de Blue lounge, het restaurant en de bar, kunt je alles over mijn verblijf. Er was zo veel mooist om te laten zien, heb ik er twee posts van heb gemaakt.

In de kamers zijn ale wanden, inclusief het palfond geschilders in een donkere tint, een “moody color” zoals ze dat noemen. Het geeft de kamer een gezellige uitstraling en is stoer tegelijk. Het toefje geel in de vorm van het bijzettafeltje annex nachtkastje de kleine tafel isperfect. De kamers hebben allemaal prachtige hoge plafonds.

Het bed was zeer comfortabel en opgmaakt met heerlijk knisperend verse witte lakens. Prachtig, dat grote leder kussen aan het hoofdeind: Ik wil dat idee stelen voor op mijn eigen bed thuis.

We hadden geluk met een mooi prive balkon aan de kamer. Heerlijk om de deuren te openen en even buiten te kunnen zitten. Tip: vraag naar ene kamer met balkon, wanneer je een kamer boekt. Niet alle kamers hebben er één Het is niet altijd mogelijk, maar wel heel fijn!

Een kleine, maar comfortabele zithoekje in het zwart, is net genoeg om je eerste zelf gemaakte koffie te drinken in de ochtend, of je schrijf er een kaartje naar huis.

De comfortabele douche en mooie wastafel, ontworpen door Jee-O , maken de kamer compleet. Hotel Blue verschaft je bij aankomst een goody bag met fijne koffie, thee en de heerlijke douchegel en shampoo.

Beneden kun je de dag fijn beginnen, of heel relaxed de hele middag blijven relaxen, in de prachtig ontworpen en vormgegeven lounge “Salon de The”. In de middag en avond is de “Blue Bar” de place to be. Ook kun je er terecht voor een hapje in het restaurant “Juliette” waar je aan het kookeiland kunt aanschuiven, terwijl de chef-kok voor je kookt. Lees alles daarover in deze blogpost hier.

Hotel Blue is een ‘zusje’ van het bekroonde Hotel Manna , dat is slechts een paar stappen verderop gelegen is.
