During my visit to London, I was invited to join the Modenus Blogtour London Designhounds group for a visit at the Fameed Khalique showroom. I didn’t know what to expect, but I never imagined a material heaven like this! It turned out the be the highlight of this trip.

Fameed Hkalique managed to select a beautiful, very special, contemporary, but also classic and luxurious collection of materials.

The international collection contains various fabrics, surface materials, woods, marble, broidery, leather for floors, walls or as fabric, concrete surfaces, contemporary artisan copper fabrics mixed with natural fabrics and so on. And the good thing is that everything is available!

Most of the time, when looking for materials for interior projects, it is difficult to find exactly what you like and what suits the project. The most annoying thing is when you finally have made your choices, the products are not available or have very long delivery time.  Fameed Hkalique makes sure that everything he shows is available within a few weeks and at the right price.

I loved his collection and never seen such a widespread selection in one place. I’ve seen many of the materials at different places like the Milan Fair or Maison et Objet Paris. And definitely seen a lot during my research for projects. But this showroom is outstanding. Such high quality, extraordinary and for all styles. Don’t think ” this is not for me” because Fameed Hkalique and his team are available for you too. Just contact them and see for yourself. The operate worldwide.

Take a look at the pictures I took at the showroom at Kingsroad London, just to give you an idea.

FAMEED KHALIQUE LONDEN

MATERIAAL HEMEL

Design and Recycled material
From coffee grounds to Coffee Cups

Amsterdam Coffee Festival

If you know me a little bit, you know I’m a real coffee lover! So the Amsterdam Coffee Festival was a perfect fit for me. All kinds of coffee professionals showed their newest products. And there I found these Coffee Cups made out of coffee grounds from Kaffeeform.

Not only the aspect that it’s a recycled and natural material spoke to me, but also the texture and color are very appealing. It actually looks a bit like a dark wood. “Dark marblewood” as the designer Julian Lechner says himself. Above all of that, each piece is unique and keeps a hint of coffee smell in it. Hmmmm :-)

And don’t think you have to throw away your cup after you finished your coffee…. No: It’s washable, durable and lightweight. Now thats good news isn’t it! I hope the cups are getting a lot of attention from design shops and coffee bars and shops so that Julian Lechner from Kaffeeform will develop more beautiful designs with this wonderful material.

Some more information from Koffeeform:

” Kaffeeform is an innovative recycled material made from used coffee grounds and renewable raw materials. After five years of experimentation and investigation, a unique formula was created to transform old coffee into new products……

The material itself and the series of coffee cups made from recycled coffee grounds will be exhibited for the first time in public at the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. An initial production run of 250 Kaffeeform cups will be offered exclusively at the fair stand.

The amount of daily coffee consumption world-wide is growing, thus the potential of reusing its waste for further uses is enormous. Kaffeeform is a sustainable material that aims to take advantage of these readily available waste materials to become an alternative to petrochemical based structural plastics.”

petrochemische

During the Milan Design week the Dutch based Ventura Projects create a very inspiring spot in the Milan Lambrate area: Ventura Lambrate.  Their vision is to:
  • emerging trends and talents
  • debuting and established creatives
  • show top quality and innovative design labels
  • and new processes and production methods conceptual and niche projects

This year the Ventura Lambrate was, again, a very interesting and inspiring event that you really don’t want to miss. I share some of my favourites here on my blog, starting with Ellinor Ericsson.

When I entered the space where the graduation students of The Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts were showcasing their work, my eye immediately was caught by the work of Ellinor Ericsson. Since my background is in fashion, I have a huge love for textile. The work of Ellinor consists of mainly textile pieces. The work is called IN OUR NATURE – A TEXTILE FURNITURE FOREST. She has a beautiful vision of living in an urban environment and wish I can have one of her pieces myself one day…
Enjoy!
More info by  Ellinor Ericsson.

IN OUR NATURE – A TEXTILE FURNITURE FOREST.
Furniture is a part of our way of living and shows our behaviour, we furnish our lives with them and live in between them.
“BUT WHAT IS OUR NATURAL BEHAVIOUR?”In a digital world where contrasts speak up between the industry and craft, the urban city and the country, I wanted to experiment with the haptic experience to be in a furniture and an environment.
A textile environment, as in nature where it is not predetermined how to act or sit. An environment, which changes, grows and adapts to you depending on your actions.
“In Our Nature” is inspired by the free way we act in nature and the changed way we began to act with furniture as the technology became mobile. Today we take our laptop from our office space and work from home in our bed or lying on our couch.
The space between private life and work has been erased and as we are both working from the office chair and the bed we need a new way of using furniture.
I have created a furniture space were you can interact with different textile structures and objects to create different settings for your everyday life and activities.
The different textiles stimulate your senses, through the structure, material and the heavy weight. The heavy weight in the textiles has a psychological effect as it slows you down and make you feel grounded with a heavy blanket on top of you, or carrying the table.
The furniture is a square furniture space as I deleted the couch table and invite you to cuddle up with the textile objects and the tray table. The construction is in oak wood, with a braided seat in cotton. The Textile collection consists of; Three different blankets in wool and cotton, one wool carpet, five pillows, a wool lamp and a textile/oak table.

Het heet IN OUR NATURE – A TEXTILE FURNITURE FOREST.
